Okay class, raise your hand if you've ever had a weird, random, even frightening dream that seemed totally realistic...
all of you? i guess i should've known.

that sounds all nice and inspiring and lovey...but oh my goodness. if this is true I am in serious trouble.
They say that your dreams are supposed to mean something..or tell you something about yourself..or summarize the main things that have been on your mind recently. Well if that's true, then can someone please explain to me why most of my dreams lately revolve around 5 seemingly random and unrelated things:
1. India and indian people
I pretty much have the whole spectrum of dreams in this category..marrying old indian guys, scary indian guys chasing me, living in india, painting scenes from india etc.
2. strange combination animals (like catdog..but weirder)
these just keep coming back! And its not just the rabbit/dogs either. I've seen everything from an owl/monkey to a llama/anteater. strange...very very strange.
3. my brother, scott
Its pretty much always the same with this guy. in one way or another..its usually me seeing him for the first time after he gets home. Sometimes realistic, sometimes just really unusual.
4. babies
the other night I had a dream that I was riding my bike with a baby on a seat strapped to the back of it..and after like an hour of biking i thought maybe I should look back and check on it and it had totally fallen off. I pretty much felt horrible. However, the next night i had a babysitting dream where i was singing Celine Dion to the baby and that was much much better. :)
5. mace
I've both sprayed mace and eaten mace in my dreams. Seriously...someone actually convinced me to spray it on my pasta at a restaurant. oddly enough..in the dream it didn't really make the pasta taste any different. I'm just going to assume that in real life..that would not be the case.
I mean..really? I wake up almost every day wondering what the heck is wrong with my brain.
If anyone sees any correlation in these..let me know.
What kind of weird dreams do you have? They're always really entertaining to hear about. They always remind me how much we have in our brains that we don' t really think about that often that sometimes finds its way into our heads as we sleep.
Till next time!!

Great post Kel! You have really, really interesting/funny dreams. What would Grandmother Willow say to that?
ReplyDeleteI watched a fascinating documentary about dreams on Netflix instant called "What Are Dreams?: Nova" -- it is in our instant queue if you want to check it out. I was particularly intrigued by the discovery that there are two fundamental types of dreams -- REM state and non-REM state -- and dream experts theorize that each plays a different role. Particularly interesting thing about that was that in one type time is sped up (as in Inception) and in the other (non-REM I believe) time is not sped up. Check it out if you have an hour on your hands or perhaps you could REM state dream it in 30 seconds ;-)
Also, I love this quote by the poet Samuel Coleridge: "If a man could pass through Paradise in a dream, and have a flower presented to him as a pledge that his soul had really been there, and if he found that flower in his hand when he awake — Aye, what then?"
Love, Dad
